Fresh Face Contest – Voting Begins | DFW Child Photographer
To say it was difficult for the panel to narrow down the entries is a HUGE understatement. With nearly 50 submissions, this is the best they could do. Every single last kiddo was adorable!
Winners receive a complimentary custom session with Captures by Erin, a 5×7 print, and a mini accordion album of all images from our session!
Please cast your vote for your favorites. You can only vote once so spread the word!
Clothing Ideas for Seniors | DFW Senior Photography
Recently, we have incorporated pre-session consultations into your experience because we’ve discovered how important it is to get to know clients prior to photographing them. While telephone consults continue to be most popular, more and more we are going to the client’s home in order to advise on wardrobe. With senior portrait sessions, that’s always a challenge because teenagers are free spirits and know exactly what they like to wear! While it’s important to follow the usual rules of solids and non-clashing colors in typical portraiture, with Captures by Erin – Seniors, you can pretty much throw the rules out the window. Mix and match accessories, trendy colors and patterns, funky hats and scarves… the sky is the limit and the more creative you are, the better your images will be. Just remember to wear clothes that fit properly and aren’t too baggy or too tight.
I have a diverse taste in clothing like most free spirited artists. Plato’s Closet in Fort Worth is a great spot for bargain hunting in the trendiest styles. Depending on the time of year, that place is a gold mine. Take a look at the latest looks for ideas but don’t imitate… Let your senior session be your own and let your creativity soar!

Today’s YouTube Tuesday is brought to you by my seven year old son, Aidan. It’s amazing what you’ll find while cleaning your hard drive. Hmm. I’m not sure whether to admire his creativity or be scared of it… :)

April 24 | Bluebonnet Mini Sessions | First Come First Serve!
Shame on you, last minute shoppers! The phone has been ringing off the hook for bluebonnet sessions but time has run out and the blooms are fading fast! Eek! To accommodate everyone, we’ve decided to do mini sessions on Saturday morning (April 24) in our favorite bluebonnet and indian paintbrush field in southwest Fort Worth. The session is limited to 30 minutes only so please plan on immediate family or just the kiddos.
Each session is priced at $250 and will include a slideshow set to music and your choice of 3 digital negatives for email, facebook, and printing.
Please call 817-361-6788 to reserve your spot. I will begin returning calls on Thursday afternoon to set appointments in the order they are received. Please no emails or facebook messages!
Bluebonnets | Fort Worth Family Photographer
I love love love my location for bluebonnets this year! The field we photograph in is off the beaten path with no traffic. It’s not only beautiful but natural with trees and lots of room to run safely! This little guy definitely took advantage of the wide open spaces. At 18 months, he was on the move and busy busy! He reminded me so much of my guys at that age. So fun!
Macro Photography | Way Cool Wednesday
While I don’t specialize in macro photography, it truly is something I consider WAY cool. The curves and textures of different objects go completely unnoticed until you’re able to get up close. The most boring subject can turn into something abstract and beautiful!
I’ve had my 100 mm macro lens for about 2 years now and I admittedly don’t get it out as often as I should. It also makes a great portrait lens too though so I really have no excuse. I’m trying harder. Ideally you should have fancy light setups, tripods, backgrounds, etc. but for these I just used the window in my studio. Sure there is vignetting and shadowing but I don’t really mind.
My husband used to bring me flowers quite a bit until I told him I was too practical for that. Now he brings me camera equipment. lol Every once in awhile, I will get a wild hair and pick up a beautiful bouquet at Costco though. Then I’ll call him and thank him for the gorgeous flowers he bought me. lol
Shooting for myself is something I’m making time for lately. Even if it’s not specifically macro – just doing something beyond the norm. Getting out of my usual surroundings. Even if it’s just once a month, I highly recommend it.

Fun Family | Fort Worth Photography Studio
Saturday we met a very sweet family who drove from Dallas for studio portraits. Beautiful Katie had an amazing amount of energy and was a big help in getting 5 month old ZuZu’s attention! She was absolutely enthralled with her big sister! They were as pretty as can be – well really, the whole family is photogenic! What a fun afternoon!
